It’s Memorial Day weekend – the official start of summer – so wherever you’re going and whatever you’re doing, travel safely and have fun.

On Monday, let’s not forget to pause to remember our military men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. And let’s also tip our hats and say “thanks” to all those uniformed folks who continue to put themselves between us and those who would do us harm so we can be home with our families and friends in safety and enjoying the liberties we too often take for granted. Our military and their families are all owed a debt we can never hope to repay – but it shouldn’t stop us from trying. So get off your ass and thank a Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman or Coastie this weekend.

Speaking of things uniquely American – like free speech – let’s also honor the 40th anniversary of the late, great George Carlin’s “Seven Dirty Words You Can’t Say on TV” routine, which comes to us this Friday ShareDay courtesy of Erika Napoletano a.k.a. Redhead Writing. If you’ve read Erika’s stuff, you know she’s a George-lover (as am I), as well as well-versed in the proper usage of four-letter words (as am I).

To this day, I am stunned my Carlin’s mind-meld of comedy and social commentary. His genius was that he took on controversy and made you want to talk about important stuff, once you picked yourself up off the floor. I really miss him.

Happy Weekend!
